Amazing Performance for 1440p Gaming
By Tyler A.
I picked this up at a local store because nobody online had stock available for MSRP at the time of this review. I just installed this GTX 1070 to replace my aging GTX 680.
This card is amazing. While it's technically not as fast as a 1080, the amount of performance you get out of this card for its price range is incredible. I paired this with an overclocked Intel 4670k and a Qnix 1440p monitor overclocked to 96Hz and it has no problem keeping up. I have been able to set most of my games to their max settings and still stay above 60 fps, and many of the games will run at 96 fps to match my monitor's refresh rate without coming close to overheating the card. I have a case with a lot of airflow to the GPU, but even then I never see it go above 65C unless I'm benchmarking and the highest I think I've ever gotten the card to was 76C. I installed MSI Afterburner to help with overclocking and fan control, and I've been able to get the card to boost up to 2050 MHz without a lot of headaches. I could probably go higher, but I've stopped there for now and I'm happy. The fan is pretty quiet for a blower design, but it's still louder than a lot of the 3rd party designs will be so if noise is a deal breaker for you then wait for more of those partner cards to be available. Since I game with a headset on most of the time, noise isn't an issue for me.
If you're running a 1080p monitor, this card is a no-brainer. Enjoy setting every game to its highest settings, If you have 1440p, this card is still a great option and will run extremely well. I'm loving how well it pushes my 1440p monitor and I highly recommend it, but if you want to be more future proof maybe wait for the GTX 1080 to come down in price. Only time will tell if this card continues to hold up well at 1440p, but so far so good. If you have a 4k monitor, I feel like you should definitely pick up a GTX 1080. This card wasn't meant to push 4k, and most benchmarks show the 1080 pulling way ahead of it at that resolution. Still, if you don't mind turning the settings down quite a bit, this card should do alright at 4k.
Overall, I'm thrilled with the card and glad I didn't wait for the prices on a GTX 1080 to come down. I feel like this card gives you more bang for your buck and still performs like an overclocked GTX 980ti. Highly recommended.

I upgraded from a Gigabyte GTX 970 card. The blower design is perfect for my node 304 due to the small internal space and keeping temperatures down.
